International Anita Brookner Day - July 16, 2011

An avid reader and erudite cosmopolitan, Thomas @ My Porch, has initiated the inaugural International Anita Brookner Day on Brookner's birthday, July 16, 2011, to celebrate 30 years of Brookner's fiction. Simon at Savidge Reads will be co-hosting the proceedings with Thomas.

This is a really remarkable opportunity to open up the discussion on Brookner, to engage with other Brookner fans, to get a sense of the community of her readership and to look at the changing tide of Brookner's reception. The celebrations are open for all. To participate: read an Anita Brookner novel between now and her 83rd birthday on July 16, 2011, let Thomas or Simon know what you thought about it, or post your own Anita Brookner-related post that day.

I'm not sure which book i'll choose yet, but i think it'll be one i haven't studied. I'm leaning towards Fraud. "don't let the cat out!!"

Thomas has even prepared this very smart button for contributors to use.

I loved every book she wrote starting in 1981. Is there a chance Anita may write another. I check the booksture every few months but nothing since 2009. I do understand that all good things must come to an end but I keep hoping. Thank you Anita, for the pleasure you have given me.

Hi Margot,
Great to hear the voice of a true fan. I also hope AB is still writing; i imagine that she is, that it is really habit for someone with enormous creative energy. Here's hoping anyway.

Anonymous - i agree. Her books are really 'life savers' i think in the way they are authentic and cut through a lot of things that are glossed over in the world. In a way, AB speaks the truth but she does it in her elegant way that even her sad truths are so uplifting and inspiring.

What a wonderful way to celebrate this brilliant writer.
Hope there will be another in 2012.
I love Anita Brookner, she is my favorite of all.
Hope there will be another book coming soon. What a wonderful treat that would be.
Whatever you are doing Anita, we miss you and wish you the very best.
By the way, I'm reading AB's "At The Hairdresser" on my Kindle. Be sure to order it!
